Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
If you enter a name or court file number into a search box, the query is sent to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the input and returns results; this service does not keep or log the search terms itself.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email message is retained so the team can respond. It is not shared beyond the organization unless the law requires disclosure.
Data We Gather Automatically
A page request gives our servers a set of basic technical details about the visit, such as:
- The time attached to each page request
- The referring site, when one is supplied
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Your device category and operating system
- Browser type and version
- The IP address assigned to the device
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved by your browser. They help analytics services group traffic trends, such as which pages are read most often and where visits end. You can block cookies in your browser settings. Some site functions may respond differently when cookies are disabled.
What We Do With This Data
- Reviewing which pages are useful and where content may need work
- Sending a query to the search partner selected by the visitor
- Keeping the site available and improving page speed
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
- Finding and resolving technical problems
No Court-Record Data on File
Minnesota Court Docket does not host, compile, maintain, or sell a database of court dockets or personal case files. It provides general directions to Minnesota Court Records Online (MCRO), the Minnesota Judicial Branch, and the County District Court Administrator who keeps a local District Court record. Under Minn. Stat. § 13.90, judicial data is excluded from the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (MGDPA) and access is governed by Supreme Court rules, principally the Rules of Public Access. Those rules govern court-file access, not visitor data collected by this private reference service. Visitor information is not assembled here into consumer reports or third-party case records.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. A query entered there is handled under that provider’s privacy policy and retention practices, which this service does not set. Read the partner’s terms before sending it information.
Links to Other Websites
Links lead to Minnesota court and county pages, statewide search services, legal aid resources, and outside search providers. Once you leave this site, the destination’s privacy terms govern that visit. Review them before entering personal information.
Some advertising partners may use their own systems to track activity across websites and select ads. That practice takes place on their systems rather than ours.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal information is not sold by this service. Data may be shared with or received by:
- Government or law-enforcement bodies when a valid legal order requires disclosure
- Advertising networks that place ads
- Traffic analytics services
- Search partners processing a query submitted through their tool
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard security measures are used to protect collected information. No online system can be guaranteed free from attack or loss, so this service cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor’s information has been submitted, contact the service so it can be deleted.
Your Data Rights
You may ask this service about personal data it retains and request that it be corrected or removed. These requests concern visitor information here, not an official court file. Minnesota’s Government Data Practices Act, Minn. Stat. chapter 13, concerns government data; under section 13.90, judicial data access follows Supreme Court rules rather than the ordinary chapter 13 process.
- Request a copy of visitor information held here
- Ask for an error in that information to be corrected
- Request deletion of personal data we retain
- Opt out of certain data-processing uses
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised. A new version and effective date will appear here if its terms change; review it again to see the current practices.
